De Havilland DH 94 Moth Minor at North Shore Today 16/12/2012

I was delighted to see Moth Minor ZK-AKM out flying circuits at North Shore airfield this afternoon. This the third aircraft of a unique folding trio owned by Stan and Gilly Smith. The other two can be seen at www.nzcivair.blogspot.co.nz/2012/02/ah-de-havillands-unfolding-at-north.html  I was told that this Moth Minor is one of only four that are flying in the world so to get up close to several circuits was quite special.

On approach the large slotted airbrake is visible,,,

Then overhead showing the amazingly clean lines...

Another approach photo'd from the balcony of the North Shore Aero Club...

To a touchdown on the grass...

Then on roll out beware of the motor stopping!

Because it is often very hard to get the motor swung into life again...

Which results in a somewhat ignominius return to the hangar!

But what a special old aircraft!
